The Nathaniel Witherell sounds the call for volunteers

With National Volunteer Week beginning April 17, we’re reminded of the tremendous role volunteers play in communities, and in helping to provide services their citizens require.

“Volunteers lend important skills, enthusiasm, energy and service to our organization, truly making a huge difference,” says Mary Tate, Volunteer Coordinator for The Nathaniel Witherell, a short-term rehab and skilled nursing care center in Greenwich. “The thousands of hours they donate help us beyond measure. We honor these selfless individuals not just during National Volunteer Week, but all year round. Our appreciation is boundless.”

Ms. Tate said the Witherell is sounding the call for more volunteers at this time. “We are seeking volunteers to help assist us with events – music, art, recreation – as well as working in our Gift Shop, helping with resident transportation within the facility, and assisting our Hair Salon team.” She says volunteers can work one to three-hour shifts, week days and weekends – whatever fits their schedule. Booster vaccine shots are required.

National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 and has grown exponentially each year, with thousands of volunteer projects and special events scheduled throughout the week. Today, as people strive to lead lives that reflect their values, an enhanced expression of civic life has evolved. Whether online, at the office, or the local food bank; whether with a vote, a voice, or a wallet – doing good comes in many forms, and we recognize and celebrate them all.
