The Greenwich Police Department named Lt. Jason Lyman and Officer Niklas LaBorne its Officers of the Month after the two officers helped bring a reported burglary in progress to a close in Belle Haven earlier this year.
According to the department, Officer LaBorne first observed a suspect fleeing the area on foot after police responded to the call. Lt. Lyman then identified fresh footprints in the snow leading toward a nearby residence, where officers found signs of forced entry at a second-floor window.
Police said the response quickly turned from investigation to search. After officers established a perimeter, Lt. Lyman decided to enter the residence and led a team through the home. During that search, officers found the suspect hiding inside and took the person into custody without incident.
The department this week cited both officers for the discipline of the response and the speed with which it unfolded. In a statement, Greenwich police said, “The actions of Officer LaBorne and Lieutenant Lyman exemplify diligence and courage in the performance of their duties.” The department added that their “coordinated efforts and commitment to public safety reflect the highest standards of service to our community.”
Lyman’s name is already familiar to many close followers of department news. Greenwich Sentinel coverage of the January promotions ceremony noted that he joined the department in 2007 and was previously recognized with a lifesaving award in 2023 after performing CPR.
