Greenwich Delivers Titles, Finals Appearances and Active Championship Runs this Winter

The late-winter sports calendar has produced a remarkable run of championships and postseason pushes for Greenwich schools. Teams from Greenwich High School, Brunswick School, Sacred Heart Greenwich and Greenwich Country Day School have captured conference titles, reached championship games and advanced deep into postseason tournaments across multiple sports during February and early March.

Several championships have already been secured, while others remain in progress as state and New England tournaments continue.

One of the most dominant performances of the season came from Greenwich High School’s boys swimming and diving team, which once again asserted its place atop the conference. The Cardinals captured the 2026 FCIAC championship, winning the meet for the 55th time in the past 56 seasons and extending a streak that now includes 19 consecutive conference titles.

Greenwich won seven events and recorded four 1-2 finishes at the meet, finishing with 540 team points, well ahead of second-place Ridgefield’s 323 points.

The victory continued one of the most sustained dynasties in Connecticut high school athletics. Head coach Terry Lowe’s program has dominated the FCIAC for decades and now turns its attention toward the CIAC championship meets later in the postseason calendar.

Another sweeping championship performance came from the Greenwich High indoor track program, which produced one of the most successful conference meets of the winter.

The Cardinals captured both the boys and girls FCIAC indoor track championships, with each team winning the conference title by a comfortable margin. The girls team also secured the CIAC Class LL state championship, then followed with a strong performance at the CIAC State Open, finishing second in the statewide meet.

The results confirmed Greenwich’s depth across sprint, distance and field events, completing one of the most successful indoor seasons in recent memory for the program.

On the hardwood, Greenwich High’s girls basketball team delivered one of the most historic moments of the season, capturing the FCIAC Tournament championship, the program’s first conference title since 1988.

The Cardinals advanced through the tournament bracket and secured the championship with a decisive victory in the final, ending a 38-year drought and sending the team into the CIAC state tournament with significant momentum.

Greenwich High’s boys hockey team also entered postseason play with confidence after closing the regular season with a series of late victories. The Cardinals finished the regular season on a three-game winning streak and advanced into the CIAC tournament positioned to pursue a deep playoff run.

While Greenwich High dominated the public-school circuit, the town’s prep schools delivered several championships of their own.

At Greenwich Country Day School, the boys hockey team completed one of the most significant seasons in program history, capturing both the FAA regular-season championship and the FAA Tournament title.

The Tigers secured the tournament championship with a dramatic 4–3 overtime victory against Kingswood Oxford at Wings Arena in Stamford. The win marked the first time in school history that the program captured both the league championship and the tournament title in the same season.

Greenwich Country Day’s postseason run included a semifinal victory that propelled the team into the championship game before the dramatic overtime finish delivered the program’s breakthrough title.

Another major title came from Brunswick School, whose basketball team captured the FAA Tournament championship with a decisive victory over King School in the final.

The Bruins reached the championship after defeating Greenwich Country Day in the tournament semifinal, a rivalry game that drew one of the largest crowds of the tournament. Brunswick then dominated the championship game to secure the league crown and cap a season that included an undefeated conference record.

Elsewhere in the FAA, Sacred Heart Greenwich has remained in the midst of a postseason run of its own.

The Tigers advanced through league play and entered the NEPSAC Class A basketball tournament, positioning themselves among the top teams in New England prep-school basketball. Their postseason campaign continues as the tournament moves toward its championship rounds.

Taken together, the winter season has produced a striking concentration of success across Greenwich schools.

Within a few weeks, local programs have captured multiple conference championships, league titles and historic program milestones. Greenwich High delivered sweeping victories in indoor track and extended its swimming dynasty with another FCIAC title. The Cardinals’ girls basketball team ended a nearly four-decade wait for a conference championship.

Greenwich Country Day captured a historic hockey double championship, while Brunswick secured the FAA basketball crown. Sacred Heart remains active in the New England prep-school basketball postseason.

Several tournaments are still unfolding, leaving open the possibility that more Greenwich teams will add titles before the winter sports season concludes.

But even before those results are decided, the pattern is unmistakable: across both public-school and independentschool competition, Greenwich programs once again stand among the strongest scholastic athletic communities in the Northeast.
