Families are invited to step back in time with Time Travelers Family Sundays, a new monthly program at the Greenwich Historical Society that brings local history to life through interactive gallery tours and hands-on activities.

Held on the second Sunday of every month, Time Travelers Family Sundays celebrates the upcoming American semi-quincentennial by drawing inspiration from 250 years of Greenwich history. The program features family-friendly guided gallery and site tours offered at 12:00, 1:30, and 3:00 pm, along with drop-in, hands-on activities available throughout the afternoon from 12:00 to 4:00 pm in the Vanderbilt Education Center and historic barn. Guided activities are free with museum admission.

Designed to engage visitors of all ages, the program encourages children to explore interactive gallery features, play “eye spy” with artists’ palettes, and design their own gallery walls. Educational crafts inspired by themes observed during the tours are offered continuously in the classroom, with a new historical or artistic focus introduced each month.

The next Time Travelers Family Sunday takes place on Sunday, February 8, featuring the theme “So Many Colors in Snow: Tonalism and Winter Landscape Painting.” Families will enjoy a guided walkthrough of the current exhibition, The Holley Boarding House: Inspiring American Impressionism, on view through March 8. Visitors will have the opportunity to view winter landscapes painted by Impressionist artists of the Cos Cob Art Colony and then create their own winter-inspired artwork in the art classroom. All materials are provided.

Upcoming Guided Activity Themes and Schedule:

  • Winter Landscape Painting — Sunday, February 8

  • Paper Flowers & Floral Arranging — Sunday, March 8
