First Selectman Fred Camillo has officially accepted the report of the Hamill Rink Task Force, which was approved by its members on Wednesday night. The full text of the report can be viewed here. The task force voted on Wednesday to recommend Eugene Morlot Memorial Park as the most appropriate location to construct a new municipal skating facility for the whole Greenwich community to enjoy.
Camillo has accepted this report and will work with Task Force Chair Matt DesChamps on the next steps.
“On behalf of a grateful Town of Greenwich, I want to thank Chair Matt DesChamps and all the members of the Hamill Rink Task Force for their work on this report,” Camillo said. “Matt DesChamps showed great leadership throughout this process and the task force members did such a thorough job researching and evaluating and then re-evaluating while also bringing the public into the process and listening to what residents had to say. Task force members asked thoughtful questions throughout the process and we now have a very comprehensive report and recommendations.”
“I wholeheartedly accept the recommendation of Eugene Morlot Memorial Park as the location and I have complete confidence in this report,” Camillo said.
Camillo created the Hamill Rink Task Force in March 2025 and since then the members have diligently and independently evaluated potential sits, held weekly public meetings with public comment opportunities as well as two public hearings and also accepted comments through e-mail and a form on the Town website.
Eugene Morlot Memorial Park was recommended after 12 potential sites and nearly 200 Town-owned parcels were reviewed by the task force.
