Anne Semmes wrote a very compelling article in last week’s Sentinel about the interest in having the Havemeyer building converted to a Performing Arts Center. I remember some 30 (?) years ago when Bea Crumbine was pushing the idea. It made excellent sense then, and is still compelling! The problem appeared to be then that the Board of Education didn’t want to move from that convenient location.
Fred Camillo needs to tell the B of E that they have no choice but to move. The offer of free rent on West Putnam Ave is a very good offer. If they can find a better deal, great, but THEY HAVE TO MOVE! Our Town should not be held hostage by a recalcitrant B of E. The idea of another hotel doesn’t make sense, and a Performing Arts Center fits well with the interests of our residents.
Readers, please let Fred know your thoughts!
