Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones announced the appointment of Ms. Tara Fogel as assistant chief officer of curriculum and leadership, effective immediately. She will continue to report to Chief Officer of Curriculum and Leadership Mr. Marc D’Amico.

In this newly created role, Ms. Fogel will review and update curriculum to align with educational standards and goals, provide guidance to school leaders and teachers on best teaching practices, support professional learning across the district, and analyze student performance data to inform public presentations. This replaces the deputy superintendent position, with a new focus on academics and curriculum.

“Ms. Fogel has undeniably been a major asset to Greenwich Public Schools from the first day she arrived in 2021,” Dr. Jones said. “She has been instrumental in supporting the district’s student achievement success, as shown by our impressive NGSS results in K-8. She is a gifted educator who works diligently to support our teachers through modeling, partnering, listening, and the exceptional ability to think creatively, making learning rigorous and exciting. Ms. Fogel also collaborates with Greenwich High School to ensure an aligned K-12 science curriculum. The hiring committee was impressed with her enthusiasm, knowledge, and drive to keep GPS moving forward so that all students are finding success.”

Since 2021, Ms. Fogel has been the curriculum coordinator for science, K-8, and social studies, K-5, where she oversaw curriculum design, adoption and implementation. She ensured alignment with standards and researched best practices for implementation, universal design for learning, Special Education, language support, and advanced learner extensions.

The search for a new curriculum coordinator will begin immediately.

“My five years working with and learning from the academic team have been a true privilege,” Ms. Fogel said. “The time spent building strong, collaborative relationships with dedicated teachers and administrators has provided invaluable insight and inspiration that I carry with me into this new role. In this expanded capacity, I will continue championing our district’s vision for excellence, and I am honored to work alongside Dr. Jones to strengthen partnerships district-wide.”

Prior to her time at GPS, Ms. Fogel’s experience as an administrator includes the systems and operations committee chair at Meriden Public Schools from 2018-2021 and the science department leader at Meriden’s Washington Middle School. She also held teaching positions in Meriden from 2013-2021, and currently serves as an adjunct professor at Quinnipiac University’s School of Education.

Ms. Fogel earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut in Integrated Geological Sciences, a master’s in Secondary Science Education from the University of New Haven, and a Sixth Year Certification and master’s in Educational Leadership and Administration from Quinnipiac University.
