
With more than 200 swimmers participating, the 26th Annual Greenwich Town Swim Championships, sponsored by YWCA Greenwich and the Dolphins Swim Team, was held November 28th and 29th at the Greenwich High School Pool.
The meet featured area swimmers from the YWCA Dolphins and YMCA Marlins competing in 48 age group events over two days with swimmers ranging from 5-18 years old.
The meet’s top winner was the Dolphins’ Samantha Packard with four gold medals in the 15/over 100-yard Backstroke and Butterfly races along with wins in the open 200-yard Butterfly and 500-yard Freestyle.
Triple winners included the Marlins’ Jada Saidmuratov, 14, who posted wins in the Mixed 400-yard Individual Medley and the 13-14 year old 100-Backstroke and Breaststroke. On the boy’s side the Dolphins’ Finn Sherwood took top honors in the 25-Freestyle, Breaststroke and Butterfly races.
Double winners in the 8/under girls group included Dolphins’ Josephine Elkin in the 25-Free and Breaststroke events and Elizabeth Chu in the 25-Backstroke and Butterfly races.
The 9-10 girls class saw the Dolphins’ Annie Strauss win the 100-yard Backstroke and 50-yard Free. Teammate Anna Galatioto won the 50 and 100-Butterfly races. The boy’s 9-10 class had Dolphins’ Jung Choi win both the 50-Free and 50-Backstroke races. The 15/over group had Sara Jee, 15, win the 100 and 200-Braststroke events.
The 11-12 girls group had the Marlins’ Kate Dimiero win the 50-Freetsyle and Butterfly events, with teammate Neville Warburton doing the same in the boy’s class.
In the 13-14 boys group Nicholas Da Silva won both the 100-Freestyle and Butterfly events for the Marlins. The 15-over boys group saw the Dolphins’ Nico Della Pietra win the 100-Freestyle and Breaststroke events, with teammate Chris Hake taking the Backstroke and Butterfly races.
Other Dolphins who won events include: Lachlan Goldsmith, 8; Nico Judge, 10; Molly Melcher, 13; Jackson Waters, 14. Marlins’ winners included Jane Tuohey, 10; Lucy Goldberger, 10; Abu Costello, 12; Allegra Foley, 12; Reife Blaustein, 12; Jack Zapata 12; Calder Kelly, 14; Kate Chesley, 16; Nikko Kania-Neira, 13.
Single event winners for the Dolphins included Nico Judge, 10 and Jackson Waters, 14. The Marlins picked up single golds from Christian Honey, 10; Abi Costello, 10; Allegra Foley, 10. Unattached swimmer Jackie Woodrow, 13, claimed the top spot in the 13-14 100-Freestyle.
Dolphins’ Coach Nick Cavataro commented, “This is always such a fun-packed event with swimmers from every school racing each other with parents and relatives in the stands cheering. It is a great holiday tradition.”
