Friends of Nathaniel Witherell (FNW) is celebrating this week after securing a FY26 Legislative Grant of $20,000 awarded by the Connecticut General Assembly to enhance safety and food service infrastructure at The Nathaniel Witherell, Greenwich’s treasured skilled nursing and short-term rehabilitation center.
This grant – championed with strong support from State Representatives Hector Arzeno and Stephen Meskers – highlights Friends growing role as an active and dynamic support organization, working year-round to strengthen the quality of life for residents.
“We are deeply grateful for this funding and for the leadership that helped secure it,” said Chairman & President of Friends of Nathaniel Witherell, Jeff Aldrich. “Friends of Nathaniel Witherell is committed to raising funds in many ways – through individual donors, corporate partners, and targeted grants like this one. Diversifying our funding sources allows us to support essential projects that directly improve daily life for the seniors at The Nathaniel Witherell.”
The funds will replace the facility’s outdated kitchen fire doors and install a new dairy cooler – two critical upgrades that ensure safety compliance and guarantee fresh, nutritious meals for residents.
Both legislators praised Friends’ dedication to The Witherell. “We are proud to bring these resources back to Greenwich and support Friends’ important work,” said Rep. Arzeno. Rep. Meskers added that caring for seniors is “a responsibility we must cherish,” commending Friends for its hands-on commitment.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Friends of Nathaniel Witherell continues to advance a forward-looking vision: to be a proactive and indispensable partner to The Nathaniel Witherell through facility enhancements, enrichment programs, and volunteer-driven support.
