Old Greenwich celebrated its second annual “Menorah Rise” pre-Chanukah gathering on Sunday, December 7, at the Old Greenwich Fire Station. What began last year as the first public Chanukah celebration in Old Greenwich has already become a beloved community tradition, bringing families together to prepare for the Festival of Lights.
From 3:00 to 5:00 PM, the firehouse buzzed with music, crafts, treats, and activities for all ages. The centerpiece of the celebration was the ceremonial completion of the community menorah, symbolizing unity, hope, and the anticipation of Chanukah.
Three community families, Josh and Yael Rosen, Zuri and Tammy Mishan, and Jason and Elise Abbruzese, were invited to speak and add branches to the menorah. The ceremony concluded with First Selectman Fred Camillo placing the final light bulb, completing the menorah to warm applause.
Reflecting on the event, Rabbi Boruch shared, “Seeing our community come together like this brings so much excitement and hope as our community grows. It’s the perfect way to get ready for Chanukah.”
To cap off the celebration, the crowd enjoyed a performance by the Chicago Boyz, whose high-energy acrobatics brought excitement and cheers from children and adults alike.
The Menorah itself will be lit on the final night of Chanukah, December 21st, at 4 pm. All eight candles will be lit with Connecticut’s senator Richard Blumenthal, and First Selectman Fred Camilo.
