On Friday, September 19, 2025, YWCA Greenwich hosted a groundbreaking celebration for their new construction project titled ‘Building For Our Future Campaign.’ This campaign will result in a 15,000 square foot, two-story and basement building addition, expanding and modernizing the community center.

President & CEO of YWCA Greenwich, Mary Lee Kiernan, opened the evening and welcomed the 75 guests, followed by remarks from the Building For Our Future campaign committee co-chairs, Jill Plancher and Natalie Stein. Key contributors to the construction project , Erik A. Kaeyer AIA, Design Principal and Vice President of KG+D Architects, and Thomas J. Walsh III, Executive Vice President of A.P. Construction Company, also expressed their gratitude to YWCA Greenwich for selecting them to be a part of this exciting effort.

Past YWCA Greenwich Board Chair, Jane Batkin, welcomed event guests to the podium, including Congressman Jim Himes, State Representative Hector Arzeno, and Governor Ned Lamont. Each spoke about the importance of YWCA Greenwich’s role in the community and voiced strong support for the expansion. Governor Lamont announced a $750,000 State Bonding award to support the project, enabling critical investments in security infrastructure such as access control systems, bulletproof film for doors and windows, upgraded locking mechanisms, exterior lighting, surveillance cameras, and a generator to ensure uninterrupted operations.
The evening closed with a statement and toast from current YWCA Greenwich Board Chair, Stephanie Kruse, followed by the groundbreaking, which included photos of attendees and children from the Kaleidoscope after school program with shovels and hard hats.
