Letter: A Community That Values Balance, Civility, and Affordability

To the Editor,

I am grateful to the Republican primary voters of Greenwich who placed their confidence in me and in our recommended slate.

What touched me most were the many congratulatory emails and texts that came immediately, not only from Republicans but also from Democrats, longtime friends, part-time residents, and people I had not heard from in years. It reminded me that Greenwich is a community that values balance, civility, and affordability.

Throughout this campaign, I was struck by how many citizens told me directly, whether at the train station, at Holly Hill, at the polls, or even ringing my doorbell, that they want less dissension and more collaboration. That is my hope as well. While we may not always agree, I believe it is our responsibility on the BET to listen carefully, work constructively, and keep Greenwich affordable for all, especially the many seniors and incomes.

I also want to thank my colleagues, both Republicans and Democrats, with whom I have served. We share the responsibility of completing this term together and approaching the work ahead collaboratively.

Finally, I extend my appreciation to those who encouraged me along the way, including First Selectman Fred Cami l lo and Ed Dadakis. And the friends who volunteered carrying petitions or encouraging their family, friends, and neighbors to vote in the primary. Your support was invaluable.

Thank you.

Leslie L. Tarkington
