Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones today announced the appointment of Dr. Kevin Thompson as assistant principal of the International School at Dundee, effective immediately.

“Dr. Kevin Thompson is a school administrator highly regarded for his positive energy, knowledge of instruction, and for making strong connections with students, staff, and families,” Dr. Jones said. “The hiring committee was excited about what he can provide to continue supporting the International Baccalaureate program at the heart of ISD’s uniqueness.”

Dr. Thompson comes to GPS from Greenwich Country Day School where he held the position of assistant head of upper elementary school since July 2022. In that role, he collaboratively worked on all daily school operations for grades 3-5, oversaw student and teacher classroom scheduling, and worked closely with the student support team. Prior to his administrative role, known for his passion for educating young people and making a difference in the lives of others, Dr. Thompson was a fourth and fifth grade teacher at Greenwich Country Day for four years and a fourth grade teacher and a teaching assistant in multiple grades at Greens Farms Academy in Westport.

Many GPS families are familiar with Dr. Thompson through his coaching in competitive diving with the Greenwich High School team and the Rocky Point Club for the past 20 years.

“Dr. Kevin Thompson brings a wealth of administrative experience to the International School at Dundee,” Principal Phil Hammack said. “His expertise collaborating with families and supporting faculty in professional learning was evident throughout the interview process. In particular, his passion for creating a warm and welcoming environment for students makes him an ideal fit.”

“My vision is to ensure that every student at the International School at Dundee experiences a true sense of belonging while being encouraged to think critically, embrace diverse perspectives, and take meaningful action in their learning,” Dr. Thompson said. “The International Baccalaureate Learner Profile’s focus on developing 21st century skills in young people aligns perfectly with my own belief that schools should prepare students to be compassionate problem solvers and responsible citizens of the world. Greenwich Public Schools’ emphasis on academic rigor, global citizenship, and the power of school-family partnerships is exactly the kind of environment where that vision can thrive.”

A seasoned educator, Dr. Thompson was also the head of school at East End Academy in Bridgeport, a high school program director at Horizons at New Canaan Country School, and the director of after-school activities at Greens Farms.

Dr. Thompson holds a bachelor’s in Crime, Law & Justice from the University of Connecticut, a master’s in Educational Leadership – School Building Leadership from Manhattanville College, and a Doctor of Education from Liberty University.
