Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones today announced the appointment of Ms. Alexandra Lage as assistant principal at Hamilton Avenue School, effective August 11. She replaces Ms. Annamaria Simonelli, who was recently promoted to an elementary  principal position in another school district

“Greenwich Public Schools continues to attract the best school administrators that our region has to offer,” Dr. Jones said. “Ms. Alexandra Lage impressed our hiring committee with her dedication to education, strong knowledge of early literacy, and her ability to make strong connections in diverse communities like Hamilton Avenue School. She is committed to the development and achievement of school goals and objectives, while advocating on behalf of all students.”

Ms. Lage, fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, comes to GPS from Bridgeport Public Schools where she served as an assistant principal at Cesar A. Batalla and Luis Muñoz Marín Schools. At those elementary schools, she supported the principals in managing school operations, including curriculum implementation and teacher evaluations, while fostering positive relationships with parents and the community to ensure a safe and effective learning environment for all students. For the previous decade, Ms. Lage was a beloved fifth and sixth grade teacher in Bridgeport at Waltersville School. During that time, she was deeply connected to the school community as a member of the SEL committee, leader in the school-wide Multi-Tiered System of Supports, ELA teacher leader, and director of spring musicals.

“Ms. Alexandra Lage is a visionary leader who will not only support our goals, but also inspire innovation and growth within our school community,” Principal Diane Fox said. “She will be a catalyst for positive change, helping to continue fostering an environment where both students and teachers can thrive.”

“Hamilton Avenue School’s focus on science, technology, engineering, arts and math education really connects with the kind of work I love – helping kids think creatively, solve real-world problems, and stay curious,” Ms. Lage said. “In my past leadership roles, I have focused on creating hands-on, inclusive learning environments where both students and teachers feel supported to take risks and grow. Greenwich Public Schools values that kind of innovation and forward thinking.”

Ms. Lage holds bachelors’ in both Elementary Education and Psychology from Southern Connecticut State University, a master’s in Educational Technology from Sacred Heart University. She also earned certifications in Intermediate Administration (092) and K-6 Elementary Education (013) from Southern Connecticut State.
