At a well-visited Town Hall evening hosted last week by Representative Tina Courpas and Senator Ryan Fazio, Brita Darany von Regensburg, founder-president of the Greenwich based nonprofit Friends of Autistic People, was among the attendees. She was there to thank the legislators for co-sponsoring and helping pass the new Autism focused Bill 7108, an act concerning abuse and neglect investigations in the group homes where adults with profound often nonverbal Autism like Brita’s own daughter Vanessa live.
Bill 7108 establishes new reporting and review requirements for the Commissioner of Developmental Services regarding abuse and neglect investigations and the expenditure of funds for services. The Commissioner is mandated to file an annual report detailing the number of abuse and neglect complaints, investigations conducted, substantiated cases, and any administrative actions taken.
This bill will enhance the quality of life of the thousands of adult children with Profound Autism who live in Connecticut’s group homes.
