Letter: Havemeyer Deserves More Community Input

Thank you for your clear-eyed editorial about the Havemeyer building. Outsourcing the fate of one of downtown’s most prominent buildings and pieces of land to the highest bidder is irresponsible and a slap in the face to the residents of Greenwich.

While it may make financial sense to lease or sell the property to a private entity, its future use is one that all of us have a stake in. So what we do with it should reflect a vision for Greenwich Avenue and downtown overall that starts with community input, not an RFP, and ends with a community asset, not a “do not enter” sign.
