Letter: Thank You for Your Column

To the Editor,

I have been reading Edward Dadakis’s columns for years and, of to my surprise, I generally agree with his logic. I want to thank him for standing up for Greenwich and for his decades of service to the town. His recent column laying out the truth behind this year’s historic budget process in Greenwich. Mr. Dadakis provided clarity — and courage.

His column didn’t just recount numbers; it underscored values. With Greenwich facing the largest budget in its history, he reminded us what real leadership looks like: fiscal discipline, pragmatic compromise, and a commitment to the people who make our town work—teachers, first responders, public servants, and families planning their futures here.

He also exposed the troubling political gamesmanship that nearly upended the process. his willingness to name that cynicism, and contrast it with the steady hand of good leadership on the BET, was both refreshing and necessary.

The most recent freak out by those who once again are saying that fiscal responsibility will “ruin the schools” in Greenwich is another bizarre example of people triggered by nothing that is real.

Greenwich, however, remains strong because we have residents and advocates like Edward Dadakis—people who understand that budgets are not just spreadsheets, but moral documents. Documents that reflect our priorities and preserve the legacy of those who built this town on prudence, not on debt.

Thank you, Mr. Dadakis, for standing up, speaking out, and continuing to fight for Greenwich.

Ben Saltz
