Greenwich High School’s varsity cheerleading team made program history when it won the FCIAC Grand Championship on Feb. 1st and exactly one month later on March 1st, the Cardinals continued their historic season with another impressive victory.
Greenwich captured the 2025 CIAC Class LL State Cheerleading Championship competition at Trumbull High School on March 1st. The Cardinals finished first out of 21 teams at the Class LL State competition, earning a winning score of 98.50 points. The win marked the first time in 18 years that Greenwich last took home a state championship. Danbury placed second at the CIAC Class LL championship (96.60 points) and Fairfield Ludlowe was third (91.25 points).
“From the beginning of the season, this team had one goal in mind – to shock the state,” Greenwich head varsity cheerleading coach Julia Vyskocil said. “These 16 athletes have worked harder than they’ve ever worked before. They never gave up. They held each other accountable, pushed each other, trusted their training and more importantly, they trusted the process. They have been working tirelessly since May of 2024 to achieve this goal.”

The Cardinals’ varsity cheerleading captains are Sierra Erensen, Siera Rollins, and Jane Trager, all of whom commented on the squad’s outstanding success so far in what has been a championship season.
“Never have we experienced a team so dedicated and driven to succeed,” Erensen, Rollins and Trager said. “Since the beginning, this team has shown that there is something special this year and that we have something to prove. The countless hours to try to go above and beyond, trying to reach perfection was unmatched. Every girl on this team has shown so much love and trust with each other; in a sport like cheerleading which relies so heavily on teamwork, the need for everyone to be all in and giving 110% every day is essential for success.”

“It’s a demanding task and this team was up and ready for the challenge,” the captains continued. “Since the summer this team has been constantly working hard, critiquing and training because we knew the potential and talent this team had would take us far. This season has been everything we could have dreamt of as seniors we have been working for this moment for years. Throughout the years this program has been building up and getting closer and closer to a win each year. We never took our eye off the prize, and the losses made us more driven to win. Our success is a testament to the unwavering support and dedication of our athletes, coaches, and fans. We are so proud to have been a part of something so great, creating history and elevating the standard for the future of Greenwich Cheerleading.”

Additionally, Greenwich’s championship squad had five athletes make the Class LL All State Cheerleading team, which is the most athletes that can qualify for this honor from one individual team. These athletes are Siera Rollins, Jane Trager, Leila Alza, Claire Kilcullen, and Ingrid Imp. Jane Trager also made the All-Academic team.
“I am just so proud,” Vyskocil said. “I truly don’t know a team that is more deserving or who has worked harder! We are not done yet! Let’s go Big Red.”
