The Sugar Maple: More Than Just Pretty Leaves
In all seasons, the sugar maple, or Acer saccharum, is a vitally important part of our everyday life. It is an extremely important species to the ecology of many forests in northern United States and Canada, increasing biodiversity, preventing soil erosion, managing surface water runoff and filtering pollutants from the air and water. Not to mention that its sap can be converted into an excellent complement to pancakes and waffles!
