To the Editor,
Thank you to the Greenwich Sentinel for its remarkable coverage of the Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink project. Your article captured the heart and soul of what makes this rink so special to Greenwich and why its future is worth fighting for.
This rink is more than just a sheet of ice—it’s a place where dreams are born and memories are made. Generations of skaters have grown up here, learning not only how to glide on ice but how to build resilience, teamwork, and determination. As your article so vividly explained, the rink’s aging walls have seen those dreams take shape, but it’s time to ensure that the next generation has a safe and modern facility to call their own.
Your clear explanation of the “flip” plan and the challenges the community faces brought this project to life. The thoughtful design to maintain rink operations during construction while improving the baseball field and preserving cherished green spaces demonstrates how Greenwich does things the right way—boldly, with an eye on the future and a respect for the past.
The Sentinel has long been a champion for truth, community, and progress. This story is no exception. With 84% of residents in support, this project reflects the best of Greenwich—vision, unity, and care for future generations. Thank you for telling the story so well.
