LETTER: Partisan Humbug! in BOE

Partisan Humbug!

Moving here, having been an adult resident of Massachusetts for almost 40 years, I was startled to learn through local League of Women Voters participation of the partisan political divides required of local boards in our state.

The recent rancor in the BOE and the often rancor in our BET indicate the horrible inefficiency of partisan board representation.

In Massachusetts, the select board members, school boards and tax assessors among others are all elected at large. You vote the best people you can without regard to party. There is no representation-political majority-minority nonsense and no ‘who gets to rule’ problem.

Greenwich should help start a movement to amend our constitution and get our state reps and senators on board. At the state level, partisanship may make sense, but locally it is a total failure in my opinion.
