Letter: Can We Please Talk About Something Else?

If you believe local Democrats, they are the only thing standing between women and The Handmaid’s Tale: Connecticut. Spoiler alert: They’re lying. The truth is that no matter who wins, abortion will stay legal and protected in Connecticut. So if that’s your top issue, cross it off your list of concerns and move on to the next items.

Did you know police have confirmed that the violent Venezuelan super gang Tren de Aragua has set up a base of operations in Stamford? And from there, they launch forays into surrounding towns? Two weeks ago they murdered at least one victim — 59-year-old Angel Samaniego, at a Super 8 Hotel in Stamford. I’m more worried about violent international gangs than abortion.

Did you know that local control of our town’s development is hanging by a thread? And with every vote they take on the matter, our Democrat Representatives in Hartford erode that control — a little bit at a time but always in the same direction. I’m more worried about overdevelopment, overcrowding, and the loss of our wonderful towns’ local character than abortion.

Did you know that Sen. Ryan Fazio is the only thing standing between us and a Democrat supermajority in Hartford? With a super majority, Democrats will be able to force their most radical dreams onto each other and us — a new state property tax, regionalized school districts, and even more new taxes that penalize hard work, investment, and playing by the rules. I’m more worried about a Democrat supermajority making Connecticut untenable than abortion.

Nick Simmons and t he Democrats’ argument against Ryan Fazio is basically, “Sure, Sen. Fazio has a proven record of expanding access to women’s health care and will keep abortion legal and safe, but he doesn’t love abortion as much as we do.” That’s pathetic.

Meanwhile, abortion isn’t going anywhere in Connecticut — but our local control, what we earn by working hard and doing the rig ht thing, and the unique character of our neighborhoods could be. Prochoice voters can have our cake and eat it, too — Vote for Ryan Fazio and the Republican slate of state representatives to preserve our towns and our way of life!
