To the Editor,
As a resident of Greenwich since childhood and an elected public servant for many years, I am writing to urge my fellow citizens to support Tina Courpas for state representative.
In an era in which civility in political discourse has declined (and, in some cases, virtually disappeared), Tina’s unwavering commitment to civility and common sense is not just a beacon of hope but a source of inspiration. Her dedication offers a promising outlook for more respectful and productive political discourse, and her example encourages us all to strive for better.
Despite talking about local zoning control, Tina’s opponent voted in favor of the so-called “Work, Live and Ride” transit bill. This bill, backed by the advocacy group Desegregate Connecticut, would have forced Greenwich to either forgo state infrastructure funding or allow developers to construct high-rise housing near one or all of our four train stations, disregarding our zoning rules and the impact it would have on the community.
Tina’s opponent claims to be bipartisan in her approach, yet not once since elected has she asked me, a Selectman of Greenwich and resident of her house district (149), for my views on the impact on Greenwich of proposed legislation on which she voted in Hartford.
Tina’s opponent claims to support fiscal responsibility, yet her voting record tells a different story. She voted last May for a special “budget stabilization bill” that exceeded the $370 million fiscal spending guardrails adopted by the legislature several years ago.
I urge you to vote for Tina Courpas, a candidate who embodies balanced and thoughtful leadership. She is the representative who truly comprehends the issues facing us and will address our community’s needs in Hartford.
Lauren Rabin
Selectwoman, Town of Greenwich
