Neighbor to Neighbor and the Wallace Center have teamed up to advance their shared missions of improving the lives of Greenwich residents through Pack-A-Thon events.
Neighbor to Neighbor provides the Wallace Center with items that need to be packed and sorted for the pantry. This can range from feminine products, diapers, rice, beans, etc. The seniors at the Wallace Center come together to pack the items and organize them accordingly. Pack-A-Thons provide both socialization for seniors and a hands-on environment.
“The Wallace Center’s collaboration with Neighbor-to-Neighbor has provided an enriching volunteer experience for members that are eager to be part of something impactful and meaningful,” said Lori Contadino, Executive Director of the Commision on Aging and the Wallace Center. “Wallace Center members are enthusiastic to volunteer to assist at pack-a-thons to portion rice, beans, hygiene products, diapers, laundry detergent and whatever else is needed by Neighbor to Neighbor for distribution. This outreach effort beautifully embodies the mission and vision of the Wallace Center of empowering older adults to age successfully in community with a sense of purpose and continued value.”
While packing, the seniors mingle with peers while making a significant difference in the lives of Greenwich residents that are clients of Neighbor to Neighbor. Neighbor provides services to over 600 families, an increase of 14% since this time last year.
“I have been a part of the Pack-a-thons at the Wallace Center. It has been my pleasure to help prepare food and staples for the people of my community. At this time when our neighbors are struggling, we should always remember “many hands make work light.” That is what we do at the Wallace Center, we reach out to our fellow neighbors”, said Nancy Mecca, Wallace Center Member.
While Neighbor to Neighbor continues to see a steady increase in clients seeking assistance, these Pack-A-Thons ensure that those in need go home with basic living necessities.
“Our Pack-A-Thons with the Wallace Center embody the true spirit of what Neighbor to Neighbor is, caring neighbors helping neighbors. This initiative is a win-win for both organizations, and we’re very grateful to the members of the Wallace Center” said Neighbor to Neighbor Executive Director, K. Brent Hill.
Following the success of the pack-a-thons, the Wallace Center hopes to make the event a regular initiative.
