The Town of Greenwich announces its recognition as a “StormReady” community by the National Weather Service. This significant designation underscores the town’s commitment to preparing for severe weather and enhancing public safety in the face of increasingly extreme weather events.
The StormReady program is designed to help communities like Greenwich improve their emergency preparedness through advanced planning, education, and effective communication strategies. With 98 percent of all Presidentially declared disasters linked to weather events, the need for proactive measures has never been more critical. The StormReady initiative empowers communities to save lives and protect property through collaboration and training.
This past summer representatives from the National Weather Service, FEMA, and the Connecticut Department of Emergency Management conducted a thorough review and site visit to evaluate Greenwich’s emergency preparedness efforts. After careful assessment, they confirmed that the town meets the criteria necessary for StormReady recognition.
The official recognition ceremony will take place on Thursday, September 26th at 2 PM in the Emergency Operations Center, located on the 3rd Floor of the Greenwich Police Department.
