Today, during Hunger Action Month, DoorDash announces that Neighbor to Neighbor Greenwich will receive one of 70 Project DASH Impact Grants totaling over $300,000 awarded this year to organizations working to eliminate barriers to accessing food and essential goods.
The $5,000 grant will help leverage local delivery to connect their communities with the resources they need most.
“Our partnership with Project DASH is breaking down barriers to access in the Greenwich community,” said K. Brent Hill with Neighbor to Neighbor Greenwich. “The Project DASH Impact Grant will empower us to expand our capabilities and allow us to focus on what we do best: serving our neighbors experiencing food insecurity. It’s a perfect example of how working together can ensure our neighbors have consistent access to healthy foods.”
“Neighbor to Neighbor Greenwich works tirelessly to serve the people of Greenwich, and DoorDash is proud to do our part in supporting their efforts” said Caitlin Gillis, Senior Manager, Government and Nonprofit – DoorDash Drive. “Home delivery has become an increasingly important tool in connecting people with food and essential goods in a way that prioritizes convenience and dignity, and Project DASH helps our partners break down barriers to access. We look forward to seeing how these Impact Grants help them fulfill their mission.”
Since 2018, DoorDash’s Project DASH has powered more than 6 million deliveries of over 100 million meals for food banks, food pantries, and other social impact organizations. As part of its ongoing commitment to broadening food access, this year, DoorDash has provided more than $1 million total to support our anti-hunger partners’ work to fight food insecurity.
About DoorDash’s Project DASH:
• Project DASH is DoorDash’s initiative to empower food banks, food pantries, and other social impact organizations to deliver food and essential items to people experiencing food insecurity.
• Partner organizations determine who receives deliveries, when deliveries will take place, and where the distribution site will be. Dashers transport items from the distribution site to the destination, and recipients receive updates via text message throughout the process.
• Nearly 13% of Americans experiencing food insecurity with many also facing barriers to accessing charitable food, including a lack of transportation. Home delivery reduces these barriers and increases recipients’ food access and financial well-being.
Project DASH partners with hundreds of organizations across the U.S. and Canada to connect people with the food and essential goods they need the most:
• more than 65 million meals delivered to census tracts with a higher rate of SNAPreceiving households than the national average;
• more than 13 million meals delivered to food deserts and about 16 million meals to rural communities;
• more than 35 million meals delivered to census tracts with a higher rate of seniors than the national average; and
• more than 50 million meals delivered to census tracts with a higher rate of people with disabilities than the national average.
