YMCA Unites Greenwich Community with Welcoming Celebration

In a historic first, the YMCA of Greenwich expands its annual Welcoming Week celebration to encompass the month of September. The YMCA will mark the occasion with exclusive promotions, free events open to non-members, and the grand opening of two new state-of-the-art fitness centers.

Each September, YMCAs nationwide observe Welcoming Week, an initiative led by Welcoming America in partnership with Y-USA. This annual event aims to promote cross-cultural understanding by connecting immigrants with U.S.-born residents and highlighting the benefits of inclusivity. This year, more than 1,200 YMCAs are participating.

Welcoming Month gives us a chance to turn the idea of unity into something real and tangible,” said Matthew Skaarup, Chief Executive Officer at the YMCA of Greenwich. “We hope to cultivate a community where every person’s story is heard, contributing a more empathetic and connected whole.”

To encourage community participation, the YMCA of Greenwich offers non-members a complimentary 7-day trial. This trial includes access to the facility’s amenities like lap swimming, over 50 group exercise classes, wellness workshops, and family-friendly events. Additionally, new members who join between September 3rd and September 30th will benefit from a waived joiner’s fee and a 15% discount on their first three months of membership.

“Welcome Week has always been a celebration of our members and the diversity of our community. We saw no good reason why this should be limited to one week so we’ve made it a month-long celebration with lots of special events and activities to bring together the Greenwich community as a whole,” said Jodi FitzGerald, Senior Director of Member Experience at the YMCA of Greenwich.

Welcoming Month events aim to celebrate the diversity of the Greenwich community and are open to everyone. Non-members of the YMCA of Greenwich are especially encouraged to participate. Free childcare will be provided during the events for all YMCA family members.
