The YMCA of Greenwich recently reopened its doors following the completion of its Annual Shutdown. This dedicated week of maintenance and enhancements, including a new state-of-the-art Wellness Center, aims to enrich the member experience.

“This reopening marks a major step forward for our Y. Through the renovated Wellness Center, we’ve reimagined how we can better support our community’s health and well-being,” said Matthew Skaarup, Chief Executive Officer at the YMCA of Greenwich. “We’re grateful to our members and the community for their patience and continued support, and our staff for their unwavering commitment to the Y’s mission.”

During the shutdown, the East Putnam Avenue facility underwent several key improvements. The Wellness Center and Base Fitness areas received new flooring and turf, along with cutting-edge Matrix gym equipment. The historic tile in the Alumni pool was restored. The Natatorium ceiling was painted, and a new pump and filter media were installed to enhance pool water quality. Fresh paint was applied throughout the building, and all floors were stripped and waxed. The parking lot was re-sealed and striped to increase parking space. Additionally, new lights were installed in the Y-play area, along with various other housekeeping projects improving the overall facility environment.

The successful completion of these upgrades is a direct result of the dedicated efforts of the YMCA staff, whose hard work has been essential to realizing these improvements. “If you want an omelet, then you’ll have to break a few eggs. At every turn, there was an obstacle, but in the end, we got it done,” said Steven Lesperance, Director of Facilities at the YMCA of Greenwich. “That was only possible because we all worked together in unity and worked as a team. All staff participated in some form or another to make this a new and improved Y that the community can be proud of.”

A standout feature of this year’s improvements is the unveiling of the newly renovated Wellness Center. This state-of-the-art facility features cutting-edge Matrix equipment and a thoughtfully redesigned layout. To support members adapting to the new equipment, the YMCA of Greenwich will offer convenient drop-in orientation sessions. These sessions, available without prior registration, will be held Monday through Friday at 6:30 AM, 12:00 PM, and 5:30 PM; and Saturday and Sunday at 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

“We’re very excited for our new, state-of-the-art Wellness Center. The latest and best exercise equipment helps make the kind of environment we want: a place where anyone can make real progress toward being the best version of you that you can be,” said Devin Monahan, Head Personal Trainer at the YMCA of Greenwich.

The Wellness Center renovation is complemented by the debut of new personal trainer offerings and a limited-time promotion starting September 3rd. First-time clients can enjoy a 40% discount on a purchase of eight one-hour personal training sessions. Additionally, members now have the option to purchase a 10-pack of personal training sessions that can be shared with family members. For those seeking greater flexibility, a new monthly subscription option will also be available.
