Last Sunday, more than 4,000 spectators convened at the Greenwich Polo Club to watch the thrilling kickoff match of the 2024 East Coast Open in which Smithfield, the formidable high-goal team who trains at the Mashomack Polo Club in Dutchess County, New York, edged out Escape Aviation, the fierce high-goal contingent based out of Manhattan, 12-11.

Bill Drake spoke about Lafayette’s historic return to the US in 1824, which included a stop in Greenwich.

Bill Drake, a longtime Greenwich resident, presented a detailed account of General Lafayette's life and contributions. He highlighted Lafayette's pivotal role in both the American and French Revolutions, emphasizing his close relationship with figures like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, as well as his complex involvement in the French Revolution. Drake also recounted Lafayette's 1824 tour of the United States, including his warm reception in Greenwich, which underscored the enduring gratitude Americans felt towards him for his dedication to liberty and equality.
