In a heartwarming act of kindness, Greenwich resident and Horace Mann rising junior Will Chasin followed his passion for photography to photograph ten refugee families, capturing their smiles and love. He then gifted each family with framed pictures for them to cherish forever. This simple act speaks volumes, showing how small gestures can make a big difference in fostering a sense of belonging in our communities.
One of the families was so touched by Will’s photographs that they asked him to photograph their wedding, demonstrating the lasting impact of his photography.
The idea for this project germinated from his volunteer work with JFS of Greenwich’s Refugee and Resettlement program, operating under the auspices of HIAS. JFS of Greenwich leads a team made up of community agencies, religious institutions, civic groups, and individual volunteers to provide a wide range of services including behavioral health support, Jewish-themed programming, senior assistance, a weekly farmers market addressing food insecurity, and legal counseling for refugee resettlement.
JFS of Greenwich teen volunteer program offers students like Will a meaningful outlet to contribute creatively and make a positive difference. It also provides invaluable opportunities for personal growth and skill development. The organization is currently seeking teen volunteers for the summer and fall of 2024, Anyone interested in volunteering should contact VolunteerDepartment@jfsgreenwich.org or visit www.jfsgreenwich.org.
