Neighbor to Neighbor Provides Over 800 Backpacks to Greenwich Students

Greenwich nonprofit Neighbor to Neighbor began their annual backpack distribution to support Greenwich students, ranging from elementary to high school. Thanks to the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation and Point72, over 800 backpacks will be distributed.

Local students will receive Under Armour backpacks filled with school supplies such as folders, binders, and notebooks. The supplies were donated through a grant from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation and packed by Point72 employees during a volunteer event at the firm’s Stamford Campus. The backpacks also come with school supply boxes made up of pens, pencils, markers, and glue, which were supported by Staples (Riverside). Water bottles were also included in the distribution.

Neighbor to Neighbor is in the process of distributing over 500 backpacks to their own clients. Neighbor to Neighbor expresses its gratitude for the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation and Point72 for expanding the program and involving six additional Greenwich organizations with their generosity: the YMCA of Greenwich, Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich, Barbara’s House, Horizons at Brunswick, YWCA Greenwich, and the Greenwich Department of Human Resources.

“The support that the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation and Point72 has shown our community has never wavered. The backpack distribution is an event that our families look forward to each year and we are so fortunate to have the support of the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation and Point72 for this annual effort,” said K. Brent Hill, Neighbor to Neighbor Executive Director.

“Neighbor to Neighbor consistently reaches out to other nonprofits to further benefit the community. Backpacks for our students are met with joy as students prepare for their new school year,” said Marianne Ho Barnum, Executive Director, Horizons at Brunswick School Student Enrichment Program. “Thank you, Neighbor to Neighbor, for years of generosity!”

“Barbara’s House is so grateful to Neighbor to Neighbor for their generosity. Barbara’s House is all about leveling the playing field for low-income, high-needs families in Greenwich. What better way to start the school year, prepped for success, than with a quality backpack filled with all the things a student will need. Thank you, Neighbor to Neighbor,” said Gaby Ratner, Barbara’s House Executive Director.

Neighbor to Neighbor takes great pride in providing local students with the proper supplies and necessities for a successful school year. Working with the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation and Point72 has allowed the program to reach more students in need.

“The YMCA of Greenwich is grateful for the support of Neighbor to Neighbor’s Backpack program. This year, through the partnership, the YMCA will distribute 100 backpacks and school supplies to local children participating in our Running Start program. Now in our third year working together with Neighbor to Neighbor in this collaboration, we can attest to the impact the program has on local families as they prepare their children for school,” said Matthew Skaarup CEO of YMCA Greenwich. “We are looking forward to the smiles of the children as they choose their backpacks this August.”
