The Bruce Museum announced the election of fourteen individuals to its Board of Trustees during its Annual Meeting of Members held on June 27. The incoming class of 2027 brings a wealth of experience and a shared commitment to further the Museum’s mission to “cultivate discovery and wonder, engaging a broad audience through the power of art and science.”

Trustees elected to the Board are: Megan M. Clark, Maurice J. Cunniffe, Grace Lockhart Djuranovic, Kathy C. Epstein, Vicki Netter Fitzgerald, Rebecca A. Gillan, Erin Glasebrook, Steven Grossman, Karen S. Keegan, Roberto Magana, Charles M. Royce, Anne Sherrerd, Abiodun Tobun, and David Yudain.

“We are thrilled to welcome these exceptional individuals to our Board of Trustees,” said William J. Deutsch, outgoing Board Co-Chair. “Their diverse backgrounds and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to advance our mission and expand our reach within the community.”

The new trustees join the board at an exciting time for the Museum as it continues to improve the quality of exhibitions and programming afforded by its new building which opened in April 2023. Their guidance and support will be crucial in ensuring the success of the Museum’s ambitious goals. With the addition of these new members, the board now consists of thirty-six dedicated community leaders who are passionate about the Museum and its future.

The Annual Meeting was a celebration of milestones reached in the first year of operations in the new facility. The new amenities, the Café and Museum Store, have been welcome respites for either a delicious bite to eat while on site or the purchase of a gift or souvenir to commemorate a visit. The remarkable number of art and science exhibitions produced since last spring speak to the variety of enlightening experiences to be had and fulfill the Museum’s new vision to be a center for inspiration and learning, where extraordinary art and science spark conversation, connection, and creativity. With offerings for every interest whether penguins or scientific hoaxes, from monographic shows by Lois Dodd, Andy Warhol, and David Hockney, to explorations of historical periods such as Abstract Expressionism, to Black artists and their influences, the Bruce has connected with over 35,000 people through its education programs, grown membership 140%, and welcomed 100,000 visitors since opening day.

The Board elected John C. Hart and Karen S. Keegan as Co-Chairs. Joining them on the Executive Committee are Vice Chair Judy Stein; Treasurer Rebecca A. Gillan; Assistant Treasurer Kathleen L. Metinko; Secretary Chris Wolfe Nichols; Members-at-Large are Maurice J. Cunniffe, Steven Grossman, Robert H. Lawrence, Jr., and Simone McEntire.

This same evening Museum members celebrated the Bruce’s latest exhibition, Jennifer Angus: The Golden Hour, and the perennially popular high school art show, iCreate. The exhibitions close on September 8, 2024, and September 1, 2024, respectively.
