Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is once again showcasing the remarkable talent of amateur and professional photographers with its 6th Annual Photography Exhibition. The event, which features over 100 photos capturing the zoo’s diverse wildlife, offers a unique opportunity for the public to get involved through the “People’s Choice Award.”
Over the past month, photographers have been submitting their best work, highlighting the zoo’s enchanting residents in their natural habitats. From the regal stance of a proud lion to the playful antics of a group of otters, these images bring the magic of the zoo to life. Below are a few examples.
This year, the public has the chance to vote for their favorite photos. Each vote costs $1, and there is no limit to the number of votes one can cast. This allows zoo enthusiasts to support multiple entries and contribute to a good cause simultaneously, as all proceeds will directly support the zoo’s operational costs.
Voting is open until Tuesday, July 23rd, at 11:59 PM. The winner of the “People’s Choice Award” will be announced the following day during the exhibition event.
The Photography Exhibition will take place on Wednesday, July 24, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Hanson Building within the zoo grounds. The event is free and open to the public, inviting photographers, their families, and friends to enjoy an evening of visual artistry and community camaraderie.
The evening will begin with a meet-and-mingle session at 5:30 PM, where guests can view the photos. At 6:00 PM, the zoo will announce the winners in several categories, including First Place, Second Place, Third Place, Judges’ Choice, Honorable Mentions, Zoo Director’s Choice, and People’s Choice. The event will conclude with another viewing session, ending at 7:00 PM.
