Greenwich House Legislative Delegation Announce Funding for Greenwich Library

Greenwich State Representatives Rachel Khanna (D-149)Steve Meskers (D-150) and Hector Arzeno (D-151) announced funding for upgrades at the Greenwich Library.

In 2023, a consultant determined that improvements were necessary to safely extend the useful life of the three elevators at Greenwich’s main library branch. The upgrades will address service and safety issues, upgrade mechanical equipment and controls, and fully meet accessibility (ADA) compliance, at an estimated total cost of $865,000.

“I am thrilled to announce that the Greenwich House Delegation secured $400,000—approximately half the total cost of the project— for elevator modernization at the Greenwich Library,” said Representative Rachel Khanna. “It’s important that all of our residents can safely and easily access the amazing resources on all four floors of the Library, including the children’s section on the top level. I couldn’t be more pleased that we were able to secure these funds.”

Representative Stephen Meskers added, “So much gets accomplished when a hard-working team unites to bring back resources to Greenwich, I am proud of my House delegation.”

Representative Hector Arzeno noted, “This year the Greenwich House delegation’s focus, among other priorities, was on delivering funding to our non-profits, the Greenwich Library elevators was one of the projects high on the list, and we delivered.”

“I am so pleased with the generous support Greenwich Library is receiving from the State of Connecticut in conjunction with the Town of Greenwich.  This project will ensure that our Library, one of the busiest in Connecticut, will remain accessible and safe. The Library is very grateful for the support our State Legislators have given to their community,” Executive Director Joe Williams said.
