Greenwich High’s girls golf team places a strong second at FCIAC Championship

For the third straight season, Greenwich High School’s girls golf team made a sensational showing at the FCIAC Golf Championship, placing second in the five-team tournament, held at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course in Fairfield on Thursday.

The Cardinals, who finished second in the FCIAC Championship for the third year in a row, finished with a team aggregate score of 340. New Canaan won the FCIAC title, posting a five-player, team aggregate score of 340.

Trumbull, the 2023 FCIAC champion was third with an aggregate score of 345, followed by Darien (393) and Fairfield Ludlowe (408). Junior Ally Bauer helped pace Greenwich, shooting a round of 80 at Fairchild Wheeler’s par-74 Black Course.

Bauer shot a 40 on both the front and back nine on her way to a round of 6-over-par 80. Senior captain Caroline McShea shot an 81 for the Cardinals. McShea shot a 38 on the front nine and a 43 on the back nine for her round of 81 for the Cardinals.

Charlotte Langhorne, also a senior captain, registered a round of 89 for Greenwich (46-46-89). Sophomore Ellery Talbot finished with a 90 (44-46-90), while senior captain Zarah Hillman posted a round of 92 (46-46-92) for GHS. Bella Crasto, a senior captain, carded a 93 for the Cardinals.

For New Canaan, Chloe Cui led the way with a round of 4-over-par 79 (37-42-79). Amanda Vigano shot an 83 (44-39) and Maxie Mirin carded an 84 (37-47) for the FCIAC champion Rams.

Paige McKenna of Fairfield Warde earned the FCIAC Championship tournament’s individual medalist honors, shooting a 1-over-par 75 (38-37-75). Also on Thursday, the All-FCIAC Girls Golf team was announced.

McShea and Bauer each earned All-FCIAC First Team honors for Greenwich. Talbot was presented with All-FCIAC Second Team honors and Hillman and Crasto were All-FCIAC Third Team honorees. Langhorne received All-FCIAC Honorable Mention recognition for the Cardinals, who have enjoyed another standout spring season.

Coached by Brian Dayton, Greenwich earned a record of 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the FCIAC West Division, giving it the FCIAC West Division championship trophy.
