Brunswick School’s lacrosse team visited top-ranked Lawrenceville on April 10 for a highly anticipated rematch of last year’s title game of the Prep Nationals and emerged with a thrilling 13-12 overtime victory.

It was a tight first quarter, with both goalies making more than a handful of great saves. This trend held throughout the entire game, as senior Tucker Williams finished with 19 saves for the Bruins. The second quarter saw more scoring from both sides, but Lawrenceville went into the break ahead, 7-5.

After halftime, Brunswick’s offense found its stride and went on a 3-0 third quarter run, including two goals from senior attackman Payton Anderson (four goals, one assist) to take an 8-7 lead going into the fourth.

The fourth quarter was everything the fans could have hoped for in a game between the No. 1 and No. 2-ranked teams in the nation: Plenty of hard hits, incredible saves, and back-and-forth tallies on the scoreboard.

With 2:52 left in the fourth quarter, senior co-captain Casey Quinson (four goals, one assist) drove hard to the cage for a goal to even the game at 11-11 and give a late extra-man opportunity to Brunswick. The Bruins capitalized on the man-up advantage, but Lawrenceville, once again, tied the game with 1:15 left, and the teams headed into overtime.

Aidan Diaz-Matos won the opening face-off of overtime and Brunswick never looked back. Sean Ryan, with a great heads up play off a quick restart that had the Lawrenceville goalie sprinting back to his cage, found Quinson for a low-angle, empty-net goal that sent the Bruins sideline racing onto the field to celebrate the win.

Up next for the Bruins is a road game against Taft School on Wednesday. With the win, Brunswick is now ranked No. 1 in the USA Lacrosse High School Boys National Top 25 poll and the Inside Lacrosse Top 25 National Rankings.
