From Office of the First Selectman; Fred Camillo, First Selectman

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning over potential gusts of wind up to 60 miles per hour in the Greenwich area. A coastal flood warning is also in effect until Thursday morning.

These strong to damaging winds are expected throughout Wednesday and through early Thursday. The potential gusts of up to 60 mph are forecast along the coast and are expected to be accompanied by ongoing rain.

According to the National Weather Service, there could be two to three inches of rainfall, potentially up to three and a half inches locally through late Wednesday night. There may be widespread minor urban flooding in areas with poor drainage and there could be river flooding Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night with a threat of localized flash flooding.

The coastal flooding threat will exist through Wednesday night and into early Thursday through the morning high tides. Flooding is possible for vulnerable communities along the southern and eastern bays of Long Island Sound. There will be scattered areas of dune erosion and localized overwashes are considered likely during high tide on Wednesday afternoon and into Thursday morning. Significant beach erosion and flooding are expected.

Greenwich officials will continue to monitor this storm as it impacts the region.
