Greenwich United Way Supports Neighbor to Neighbor with Town-Wide Food Drive This Week

The Greenwich United Way (GUW) is leading a town-wide food drive to support Neighbor to Neighbor April 3-8. Several local businesses and organizations are coming together to collect donations in town including: GUW Sole Sisters, several private schools, Greenwich Junior United Way, Foodshed Network, Regency Centers, Whole Foods, Balducci’s, Kings, Stop & Shop, and Acme.

GUW is committed to collaborating with local organizations to educate Greenwich residents on food insecurity and more specifically local food challenges. The Neighbor to Neighbor food bank is a critical resource in town and is invaluable to the many residents who might otherwise be unable to provide adequate supplies for their families. Following the holidays, it is typical that food banks experience a dearth of inventory and are most in need of contributions. The GUW is taking a multi-site approach for this food drive to increase awareness, engage more of the community and maximize donations.

“Neighbor to Neighbor is a vital partner in our mission to help the most vulnerable in our town and it provides residents with their most fundamental needs,” said David Rabin, CEO of Greenwich United Way. “We are confident that this town-wide food drive will be incredibly affective at a time when the food bank needs our support the most.”

While all grocery donations are valuable to the organization, Neighbor to Neighbor is most in need of the following:
· Cereal
· Jelly (grape and strawberry)
· Peanut butter
· Canned or dry fruit
· Canned protein (tuna, chili, Vienna sausage)
· Pasta sauce
· Cooking oil (16 oz. or 18 oz.)
· Coffee (instant or ground)
· Dried beans (1 lb. bags)
· Rice (1 lb. bags)

Donations can be made at Greenwich United Way offices, Cos Cob Library, and Perrot Library or online at https://amplify.ampyourgood.com/user/campaigns/4513/stores
