LWV to Host Virtual Discussion on Climate Change

On Monday, February 26, from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m., a virtual discussion via Zoom will bring together Senator Chris Murphy and Former Representative Bob Inglis, the Executive Director of RepublicEn, to delve into the critical necessity of bipartisan collaboration in addressing the pressing issue of climate change.

Senator Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, has been a vocal advocate for environmental action throughout his tenure in Congress. Known for his efforts to advance legislation aimed at combating climate change, Senator Murphy has consistently emphasized the need for bipartisan support to enact effective policies. His track record illustrates a commitment to finding common ground with Republican counterparts to address environmental challenges facing the nation.

Bob Inglis, a former Republican congressman from South Carolina who now leads RepublicEn, has undergone a notable evolution in his stance on climate change. Once a skeptic, Inglis has become a leading voice among conservatives advocating for proactive measures to address climate change. His organization focuses on reframing the discourse surrounding environmental issues in a manner that resonates with conservative values, aiming to foster bipartisan solutions to tackle climate change.

Senator Murphy’s legislative efforts include initiatives to promote renewable energy, reduce carbon emissions, and invest in sustainable infrastructure. His approach emphasizes the economic opportunities inherent in transitioning to a greener economy while also addressing the environmental imperatives of mitigating climate change.

Inglis’s journey toward climate advocacy has been marked by a willingness to challenge traditional conservative narratives on environmental policy. Through RepublicEn, he aims to bridge the partisan divide by presenting climate action as consistent with conservative principles of free-market innovation and fiscal responsibility.

The forthcoming discussion between Senator Murphy and Inglis promises to shed light on the progress made in fostering bipartisan cooperation on climate change and the challenges that lie ahead. In a political landscape often characterized by polarization, finding common ground on this issue remains a paramount concern for lawmakers and advocates alike.

Participants in the virtual event will have the opportunity to gain insights from Senator Murphy and Inglis as they share their perspectives on the importance of bipartisan solutions in addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time.
