RMA Presents “Cannabinoids and Cooking”

Dr. Joseph Feuerstein spoke about cooking with herbs and spices that stimulate the endocannabinoid system of the body.

By James Dean

On November 29 Dr. Spike Lipschutz introduced Dr. Joseph Feuerstein, assistant professor of medicine at Columbia and Quinnipiac, who spoke about his book “The Cannabinoid Cookbook: Transform Your Health Using Herbs and Spices from Your Kitchen.” Dr. Feuerstein co-authored this book with celebrity chef Daniel Green. He spoke about how to engage your own body system using food without using CBD or hemp products. Research begun in 1964 found ways to stimulate our system with natural foods. We can use black pepper, turmeric, basil, rosemary flax, oregano, cloves and cinnamon to improve our health with better sleep, improved mood, and lower stress levels. Holistic cooking can provide natural healing remedies. He provided a video of Chef Daniel preparing fettucine with truffle oil which delivers 100 percent of the daily calcium, vitamin K, and iron needs. This helps with good cholesterol and blood pressure and mimics the effect of insulin in the body.

Dr. Feuerstein graduated from the University of London and Cambridge University and did his family medicine residency training at Columbia University and Fellowship training at the University of Arizona. He is an assistant professor of clinical medicine at Columbia University and Quinnipiac University School of Medicine. He has authored and presented more than 30 peer reviewed articles and conference presentations in the area of integrative medicine. He is co-host of the internet show “Condition Kitchen” with international celebrity chef Daniel Green, with whom he co-authored “The Cannabinoid Cookbook,” and is the author of the book, “Dr. Joe’s Man Diet.”

The RMA’s upcoming presentation, “Will the Lights Go Out in New England? The Future of the Electric Grid – And Your Electric Bill,” by State Senator Ryan Fazio, is scheduled for 11 AM on Wednesday, December 13th. While Connecticut residents pay among the highest electricity bills in the country, our problems could get far worse in just a decade. Due to policy and economic trends, electricity demand could double in 20 years, while supply is highly unlikely to keep pace. On top of that, the new generation capacity that is expected to be built is likely to be done at much higher cost than the past with immense needs for new infrastructure investment too. All that means that your electricity bills are going to get much higher, plus our region could suffer from rolling blackouts, unless there is a change in direction. Ryan Fazio, the ranking senator on the legislature’s Energy Committee, explains the risks and possible solutions to keep the lights on and make energy costs more affordable.

Ryan Fazio was elected State Senator in August 2021 and re-elected in 2022. He represents the 36th District, which includes Greenwich, Stamford, and New Canaan. Born in Connecticut and raised in Greenwich, Ryan is a graduate of the Greenwich public schools. After studying economics at Northwestern University, he chose to return to Connecticut to live and work.

Ryan spent most of his career working in commodities markets, moving tens of millions of tons of agriculture and energy goods around the world, and specializing in renewable energy. Currently, Ryan works at a growth equity firm that invests in medium-sized businesses and advises their management to help them grow. Ryan volunteered for seven years as a tutor in inner-city charter schools and for three years for Meals on Wheels. Ryan has served on the Greenwich Representative Town Meeting and the town’s Energy Efficiency Committee.

Ryan is the Ranking Senator on the legislature’s Energy & Technology Committee and Planning & Development Committee. He also serves on the Transportation Committee and the Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee.
