Indian Harbor Winter Sailing Association – Day 1 of Fall Series

Indian Harbor Yacht Club Winter Sailing / Frostbiting Association was back on the water on Sunday, November 12 for the first race day of the ‘Fall Series’. The Fall Series consists of 10 race days. The conditions were once again ideal with ample sunshine, seasonal temps in the high 40s and a gentle 6-8 knot breeze out of the north. 17 sailors competed in 5 races. The Race Committee set a course consisting of 3 legs with a finish at the starting line which averaged 20 minutes to complete.

It was an exciting and challenging day for competitors as they had to contend with very shifty winds and river-like currents. Our crash boat crew was kept busy rescuing several sailors and their boats who capsized and experienced their first taste of salt water in 2023! To further complicate matters, a number of fouls ( rules violations ) between competitors forced the offending party take penalty turns to exonerate their misdeeds.

The competition was fierce, especially at the top of the leaderboard , as the winner of the day was not decided until the final race . The competitors consisted men and women, veterans and first timers who ranged in age between 16- 65+.

The next race day will be on November 19 with the expectation of 25 boats on the starting line. Local sailors interested in participating are encouraged to contact Sailing Director, Chris Foley at cfoley@Indianharboryc.com. November 12 results:
