Meals-on-Wheels of Greenwich Has a Message: Gratitude

In the heart of Greenwich, the essence of gratitude emanates from Meals-on-Wheels, Inc. as they celebrate their volunteers and partnerships that have bolstered their service to the community. “This season, we are immensely grateful for the dedication of our volunteer drivers and the generosity of partners like ACME Markets,” explained Lori Jackson, Chairman of the Board of Meals-on-Wheels, Inc.

The organization recently partnered with ACME Markets, who, through their Give Back Where it Counts Program, provided brightly colored pumpkins to be delivered to clients. “These small tokens of the season are but one example of how our partnerships help us bring joy alongside our meal services,” Jackson noted.

Volunteers, the backbone of the organization, have been pivotal in delivering not only the traditional meals but also a sense of connection to those often facing isolation. “Our volunteers do more than deliver meals; they deliver smiles, companionship, and the warmth of community,” said Jackson, emphasizing the multi-faceted role these individuals play.

The sentiment of thankfulness extends to the history of Meals-on-Wheels in Greenwich, which began in 1960. What started with a couple of meals twice a week has flourished into an operation delivering over 1,900 meals each month, thanks to the collective efforts of numerous supporters and the legacy of community care initiated by the Woman’s Club of Greenwich.

Jackson highlighted the organization’s commitment to accessible service: “With no income restrictions or complicated paperwork, we ensure that anyone in need can receive our meals at $7 for two daily meals or $5.50 for one.”

As the organization looks toward the holidays, they do so with a message of unity and appreciation: “We hope everyone’s Thanksgiving is a feast of joy, filled with warmth and togetherness,” Jackson conveyed.
