GA goes undefeated at recent FAA cross country meet

Greenwich Academy went undefeated at a recent FAA cross country meet it competed in at Sherwood Island Park, behind outstanding finishes from Lily Lyons and Maddy Lee.

Lyons, a sophomore won the race at Sherwood Island for Greenwich Academy, posting a time of 18:30 – a course record. Lee, a GA senior, finished second in the race, registering a time of 19:38.

For the meet, Greenwich Academy went 5-0, defeating Hopkins School, Sacred Heart Greenwich, Greens Farms Academy, School of the Holy Child and Rye Country Day.

Sacred Heart Greenwich was paced by senior Ava Lillis, who placed third with a time of 20:26. Tigers teammate Charlotte Bacigalupo, a junior, finished fourth in 20:31. Giselle Putka, an eighth grader representing Greenwich Country Day School, was eighth (21:11).

Senior Grace Sullivan had GA’s next best finish behind Lyons and Lee, placing 12th in 21:41. Sophomore Isabel Pombo (17th, 22:43), freshman Aya Ragab (19th, 22:50), sophomore Nadia Kowalski (22nd, 23:17) and junior Casey Duval (24th, 23:27) also paced Greenwich Academy.

Junior Maggie Finn finished 10th for Sacred Heart (21:38), which received a time of 23:25 from sophomore Chloe Coviello (23rd place). Senior Rima Ferrer clocked in at 23:49 for Greenwich Country Day.

“Great race at Sherwood Island,” GA coach Jane Finch said. “Great effort by the whole team – 14 PRs.”
