YWCA Greenwich announces the appointment of Simone Quartey as the new Director of the Center for Equity & Justice. Quartey was chosen after a national search conducted by the executive search, research and consulting firm, The Morten Group.

“Together with YWCAs across the country, we continue to strengthen the YWCA mission of eliminating racism and empowering women through programs such as the YWCA Greenwich Center for Equity and Justice. Simone brings substantial expertise and experience in our mission, particularly in the corporate context, as well as a deep understanding of this region as a native of Westchester County. She has hit the ground running, forging relationships with community partners and driving forward with the Center’s work, and we are thrilled Simone has joined YWCA Greenwich,” said YWCA Greenwich President & CEO Mary Lee Kiernan.

The Center for Equity & Justice at YWCA Greenwich is dedicated to advancing equity, inclusivity, and justice within the Greenwich community. The mission is to create a space where dialogue, education and action intersect to empower individuals and organizations in their journey towards a more equitable future. Through a diverse range of initiatives like community education, policy advocacy, direct programming, and systemic change efforts, these programs are designed to empower individuals, organizations, and institutions to actively engage in the pursuit of equity, justice, and inclusivity.

With a background in Political Science and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Ms. Quartey’s experience as the Civil Rights & Inclusion specialist at the New York Power Authority aided in the creation and implementation of the Diversity & Inclusion strategy that was used across the Authority, and creating a diversity curriculum that was used in conjunction with performance and hiring processes.

Most recently, Ms. Quartey managed Diversity & Inclusion at Societe Generale Corporate Investment Banking, where she integrated training programs and events, emphasizing the importance of inclusive leadership and combating bias.

“I am excited to learn, understand and become a part of the community. I believe equity work involves everyone and I hope to lead with kindness, expertise and understanding. I am excited to work for an organization that is explicitly dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. I am heartened to be welcomed by the various community members and organizations,” explained Simone Quartey.

YWCA Greenwich and its Center for Equity & Justice will commemorate Coretta Scott & Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with its Annual Conversation on January 18th, 2024. Visit www.ywcagreenwich.org for more information.
