Robbery Suspect Apprehended on Greenwich Avenue

A robbery attempt took place today at 140 Greenwich Avenue around 3:34 PM, with the suspect swiftly apprehended by the Greenwich Police Department (GPD).

The male suspect, a resident of San Francisco, CA, entered the store donning a wig and makeup. He expressed interest in viewing jewelry. However, once the items were presented to him, he brandished what appeared to be a gun, threatening employees and a security guard. He demanded the jewelry under the threat of violence. Complying with his demands, the store associates handed over the jewelry, and the suspect fled the scene.

The store’s security guard trailed the suspect while simultaneously dialing 911. Relaying the perpetrator’s movements to the dispatch center, the information proved invaluable as GPD detectives in the vicinity initiated a foot chase. The suspect was subsequently arrested in the Town Hall parking lot.

Upon his capture, GPD officers retrieved both the jewelry, valued at an estimated $175,000, and the weapon, which was later identified as a BB gun.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident. The suspect acted alone.

Following the arrest, the suspect was transported to GPD headquarters. He has been charged with Robbery 1st (53a-134), Larceny 1st (53a-122), Threatening in four counts (53a-61aa), Interfering with an Officer (53a-167a), and Breach of Peace (53a-182).

A bond for the suspect has been set at $750,000. As of now, he remains in GPD custody, unable to post bond. He awaits transportation to Stamford Superior Court.
