Scorching temperatures did little to deter the Greenwich Hospital Freedom Riders from taking part in Ride in the Garden to support Smilow Cancer Hospital in Greenwich as part of Yale New Haven Health’s 13th annual Closer to Free event.

The 15 riders pedaled spin bikes – donated by the YMCA of Greenwich – in the hospital’s community garden. A live instructor led each participant through a 20-30 minute spin class.

Kristina Capretti, RN, director of Patient Services for Smilow Greenwich, thanked the riders for supporting cancer care services. All funds raised from Ride in the Garden will directly support Smilow Cancer Hospital in Greenwich.

“Thanks to people like you we can continue to provide much-needed services to our patients, whether it’s treatment, social work, rehabilitation and more,” said Capretti.

The live Closer to Free event took place in New Haven on Sept. 9.
