Empowering Futures: Support Greenwich Campership

According to a press release from the Greenwich Department of Human Services, the 2023 Greenwich Campership Program is calling on the community to lend a helping hand. This annual program aims to provide children from low-income families in Greenwich with an unforgettable summer camp experience, while also offering older adults aged 55 and over a chance to enjoy a summer program away from home.

“To qualify for a full camp scholarship, a child’s family income must not exceed 300% of Federal Poverty Guidelines,” according to the release. This means that families of four earning $7,500 or less per month are eligible for full payment of camp fees, although exceptions can be made for families facing extenuating circumstances. The program has received applications from over 160 children seeking a summer camp opportunity, along with 20 seniors who are interested in participating in the Adult Camp.

The Campership Program provides children with the opportunity to forge new friendships, engage in various activities, and develop crucial life skills in a supervised environment. “A camp experience stimulates new interests and helps a child develop resourcefulness, social skills, and a positive self-image,” emphasized the release. Moreover, the camp serves as a form of child care, enabling parents to maintain employment during the summer  months.

The program’s funding relies heavily on contributions from community groups, businesses, corporations, and individuals.

As highlighted in the release, “Without generous support from donors, children can be left with limited enrichment opportunities throughout the summer.” The Campership Program offers different sponsorship levels, providing donors with the chance to make a meaningful impact.

Sponsorship options include sponsoring a camper for two weeks ($400), four weeks ($800), or becoming a Camp Enthusiast ($1,000) or Camp Champion ($50). For those wishing to support the senior participants, a sponsorship of $300 is suggested.

In order to ensure the success of the 2023 Campership Program, the Department of Human Services is urging the community to offer their support. “

Donations can be made online through the official website: https://www.greenwichdhsfund.org/campership-program/ or by sending a check payable to The Greenwich Department of Human Services Fund, Inc., addressed to Attn: Campership, Department of Human Services, 101 Field Point Road, Greenwich, CT 06830.

The Campership Program is an opportunity for the community to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children and seniors.
