The Friends of the Greenwich Library gathered for their annual meeting this past May, resulting in the election of two well-known Greenwich residents, Bey-Shan C. Liu and Karen Free Royce, to serve three-year terms as new trustees for the Greenwich Library Board.
Peggy Edersheim Kalb, President of the Library Board of Trustees, couldn’t contain her excitement over the new additions to the board. She emphasized, “We are delighted to welcome our talented new board members and look forward to working with them on the Library’s wonderful ongoing and exciting new initiatives.” The Library Board expects that Liu and Royce, with their commendable skills and enthusiasm, will make valuable contributions to the future of Greenwich Library.
Bey-Shan C. Liu, a Greenwich resident since 2012, is no stranger to community service. Currently serving as the PTA President of the International School at Dundee and a member of Pitch Your Peers, Liu carries the experience of participating in the Junior League of Greenwich’s Strategic Planning Group. The New Orleans native was drawn to the town by her husband’s roots and quickly found the library to be a cornerstone in her family’s life. “The Library served as a vital anchor for my family, sparking lasting friendships during children’s storytimes,” she shared.

On the other hand, Karen Free Royce, already familiar with the Board, having served from 2012 to 2018, will bring a wealth of experience to her newly elected nonconsecutive term. Royce, an active member of Christ Church and part of the Boards of Neighbor to Neighbor and River House, maintains a keen interest in early childhood education. “I am a lifelong learner and user of libraries. The Main Library and its branches are an amazing resource for Greenwich, and I’m thrilled to serve as a trustee again,” stated Royce. “Invitation and engagement are key to the library’s future. I look forward to working with the excellent staff to deepen the library’s connection with all parts of Greenwich. Many people who work in Greenwich do not know they are able to have a Greenwich Library card.”
For residents who frequently visit the Main Library at 101 West Putnam Avenue, or the branches at Byram Shubert and Cos Cob, Liu and Royce’s election brings a renewed sense of commitment and anticipation. With their rich background in community service and education, these new board members will surely bolster the Library’s mission to offer exceptional resources, programs, and services promoting lifelong learning and discovery.
The Greenwich Library, known for its vast collection, myriad of programs, and warm atmosphere, invites Greenwich residents to continue being a part of their ever-evolving journey.
