‘Aging Well’, Second Wednesdays at Round Hill

On the second Wednesday of every month, from 11 a.m. to noon, Round Hill Community Church will host an informal conversation about different aspects of aging well. Each month, a Greenwich area representative from an organization with experience in assisting seniors and their families, will lead a discussion about what it means to ‘age well.’

On May 10, Lori Contadino, Director of the Greenwich Commission on Aging, will discuss “Vibrant Living and Purposeful Living.” The Rev. Shannon White, Pastor of Spiritual Development at RHCC explains, “Overall health and well-being are directly correlated to having a sense of purpose and social support in later life.” Ms. Contadino will explore how we sustain social value and a sense of relevance as we age despite changing roles and health challenges. She will also share community resources that are available to all in our area.

Lori Contadino, MS, CDP, is the Executive Director of the Greenwich Commission on Aging and the Town’s Municipal Agent for the Elderly. Since January 2013, she has been responsible for identifying and responding to needs of older persons; formulating plans and setting priorities for new and improved services; providing assistance to older adults through advocacy and community outreach efforts as well as overseeing the management of the Greenwich Senior Center. She holds a Master of Science Degree with distinction in Gerontology (Education/Administration and Counseling), certification in Thanatology, certification in Case Management from Boston University Graduate School of Social work and is a Certified Dementia Practitioner. Lori has worked in the field of Geriatrics for the past 39 years and has assisted older adults and their care partners in diverse care settings ranging from community-based services through acute and long-term care environments. She is a certified Health Insurance Counselor through the State of Connecticut CHOICES program and is leading the Age & Dementia Friendly Greenwich initiative for the Town of Greenwich

Round Hill Community Church began the conversation around aging well on April 30 with a “Tools for Aging Well” panel discussion with experts in the field of senior living and aging well. One of the panelists shared, “A woman who spoke with me before the event, said that she is overwhelmed with her parents’ needs, and doesn’t know where she should even start. We talked for a while. The same woman stopped back after the panelists spoke, to say she is still feeling overwhelmed, but at least now she has an idea of where to start. She said she felt a bit better now, than when she first walked into the church.” A video of the panel discussion and following question and answer period, is available on the Round Hill Community Church website: roundhillcommunitychurch.org. There is also a list of websites for area resources dedicated to Aging Well.

Mark your calendars for the Second Wednesday of each month, 11 a.m. to noon, to continue the conversation about Aging Well. Bring your friends: these monthly gatherings are open to all and free of charge. Round Hill Community Church is located at 395 Round Hill Road in Greenwich.
