Editorial: Our Sentinel

We are throwing a party and you are invited!

On Thursday, June 29th, we are having a party to honor the Greenwich Sentinel Foundation’s Sentinel Award Winner 2023, Greenwich’s very own exceptional individual, Frank Gaudio.

For years, Frank Gaudio has been transforming the lives of the people of Greenwich through his acts of kindness and selflessness. His presence in our community has left an indelible mark, touching countless lives and businesses. Frank possesses that rare quality that allows him to improve the world around him effortlessly, as easily as taking a breath. Through his empathy and compassion, he has become a shining example of the Greenwich spirit.

When we express our gratitude to Frank, he responds not just with a warm “You’re welcome,” but by highlighting the strengths and virtues that make you great as well. It is difficult to quantify the sheer magnitude of his positive impact on our community.

What are the criteria to be selected to receive the Sentinel Award? The recipient must exemplify the mission of the paper. The person must be someone who demonstrates leadership and seeks to strengthen our community. Strength dose come from differences, not in similarities. Our recipient must understand that. They may or may not be at the conclusion of their career. They may have much to offer our community that is yet untapped, or they may have earned this accolade because of a lifetime of achievement for the betterment of Greenwich. Frank falls somewhere in the middle having great achievements with many more to come, not the least of which is his ability to set an example for the rest of us of what it looks like to be successful in your business career while ensuring the success of others along the way – especially those facing hurdles and challenges.

Frank clearly and selflessly exemplifies all these characteristics, and for those reasons, we have chosen him to be our “Sentinel” for 2023.

The awards are given by The Greenwich Sentinel Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to building a stronger local community and working to support community causes in partnership with The Greenwich Sentinel media group and other local partners.

The Greenwich Sentinel Foundation is dedicated to supporting that which we believe is vital to the Greenwich community and what keeps Greenwich strong: our local police department, fire department, GEMS and all first responders; our local non-profits doing excellent charity work; and our local faith communities. In addition, we celebrate our local volunteers and leaders through the Sentinel Award.

The Foundation is also responsible for free community copies of the Sentinel, scholarships and donations for special projects, the Community Calendar, the 5 Top Things To Do in Greenwich Today, Faith calendars and worship pages, the focus on Children & Education, advertising and PR support for Non-Profits and more!

When we think of a Sentinel, we often think of that person standing watch to protect our community. However, a Sentinel can take many forms. Our previous award winners have one thing in common with each other and with Frank – they are all passionate about supporting and improving our community through their non-stop work in support of others.

Our previous award winners:
Chief of Police James Heavey
Rev. Dr. James Lemler
Susan Wohlforth
James McArdle
Pamela Pagnani
Stephanie Dunn Ashley
Bob Capazzo

The Sentinel Award reception is always a wonderful way to begin the Independence Day holiday weekend. This year will be no different. The event is not just an opportunity to celebrate Frank and all he does in our community. It is also an opportunity for us to come together as a community and have fun. This is the feel-good event of the year!
